Engulfing Bar at a Levelthe most-taught candle, in the only place it means anything
A bar whose body completely covers the previous bar's body, closing in the opposite direction. Taken alone it is one of the weakest signals in retail trading — it happens constantly and predicts very little.
Taken at a level that was already worth watching, it becomes something more modest and more useful: a precise place to put the stop, and a moment to act on a thesis you already had. That is the whole claim of this page, and it is deliberately small.
The level is the edge. The candle is the timing and the stop placement — useful, and a far smaller claim than the one usually made for it.

Exact rules
Entry
- The level first: a daily swing point with at least two touches. No level, no trade — this rule is what separates the page from pattern-spotting.
- Price must reach the level. The engulfing bar must form at it, not near it.
- Size filter: the engulfing bar's range must be at least 1 × ATR(14). A tiny engulfing bar in a quiet hour is noise with a name.
- Enter at the close of the engulfing bar.
Stop loss
- Beyond the engulfing bar's extreme, plus 0.3 × ATR(14).
- This is the candle's real contribution: it gives a tight, defined invalidation that the level alone does not.
- Risk 0.5%.
Take profit / exit
- TP1 at 2R, half off, then break even.
- TP2 at the next daily level.
- Out if price closes back through the level. The thesis was the level, not the candle.

More from Price action
Trading carries risk and most retail accounts lose money. Nothing on this page is financial advice or a recommendation to trade. The chart is an illustration of the rules on constructed candles — it is not a record of a trade and not a backtest.
