MACD Histogram Accelerationthe popular one, and what it actually measures
The MACD histogram is the difference between two exponential averages, minus a third average of that difference. Rising histogram is usually described as accelerating momentum.
It is in the library because it is one of the most used indicators in retail trading and its absence would be conspicuous. It is rated Weak because of what it is: three moving averages arranged so that the output is a second derivative of price, which makes it noisier than the thing it is measuring, and because there is no research supporting the specific construction.
The evidence is for return persistence — instruments that have gone up tend to keep going up for a while. Every page here is one way of measuring that, and the measurement is a choice while the effect is the finding.

Exact rules
Entry
- Direction gate: price above the EMA(50). Longs only. Without this the strategy is a coin flip with commissions.
- Setup: the MACD histogram is negative — momentum is against the trend, which is the pullback.
- Trigger: two consecutive histogram bars that are less negative than the one before. Enter at the second bar's close.
- Skip the signal if the histogram's magnitude never exceeded a threshold you have set in advance. Tiny oscillations produce constant signals and no edge.
Stop loss
- 1.5 × ATR(14) below the pullback low.
- Exit on the first histogram bar that turns more negative again — before the stop, if it comes first.
- Risk 0.5%. Weak evidence, small size.
Take profit / exit
- TP1 at 1.5R, half off.
- The rest exits when the histogram crosses back below zero.
- Do not use the MACD line crossing as a second confirmation. It is built from the same two averages and it tells you nothing new.

Trading carries risk and most retail accounts lose money. Nothing on this page is financial advice or a recommendation to trade. The chart is an illustration of the rules on constructed candles — it is not a record of a trade and not a backtest.
