Strategy library

Rules you can check before you trade them.

Every strategy carries its exact rules, an annotated chart of the setup, the research behind why it should work at all — and the conditions under which you should not take it.

Inside Bar Breakout

mother bar range break, trend-gated

An inside bar sits entirely within the previous bar's high-low range. Both conditions are required: high < mother high and low > mother low.

Previous Day High / Low Break and Retest

PDH / PDL liquidity levels

The previous trading day's high and low are the most widely watched intraday levels in FX. The trade is continuation on the break of one of them.

Bollinger Squeeze Expansion

bandwidth percentile breakout

Bandwidth = (upper − lower) ÷ middle. When it sits in the bottom 20th percentile of its own 120-bar history, the squeeze is on.

MACD Histogram Acceleration

the popular one, and what it actually measures

The MACD histogram is the difference between two exponential averages, minus a third average of that difference. Rising histogram is usually described as accelerating momentum.

Round-Number Rejection

the 00 and 50 figures

Orders cluster disproportionately at whole figures — 1.0900, 1.1000 — and at the half figures between them.

Pin Bar at a Higher-Timeframe Level

the control case for Day 5

A pin bar is a candle whose wick is at least two thirds of its total range, whose body sits in the opposite third, and which closes on the correct side of the level.

Engulfing Bar at a Level

the most-taught candle, in the only place it means anything

A bar whose body completely covers the previous bar's body, closing in the opposite direction. Taken alone it is one of the weakest signals in retail trading — it happens constantly and predicts very little.

Wide-Range Bar Retracement

half of the move that started it

One bar moves a long way. Price then retraces into the middle of that bar, and the trade is taken there on the assumption that the move continues.

Candlestick Patterns: What the Testing Shows

the page that explains why the others are rated low

Doji, hammer, shooting star, morning star, three white soldiers. There are dozens of named patterns, thousands of courses teaching them, and remarkably little evidence that any of them predicts anything on its own.

Mapping Swing Structure

the definitions everything else in this book depends on

Before any structure strategy can be traded it has to be possible to say, mechanically, where the swing points are. Almost nobody does this, which is why two traders looking at one chart disagree about whether structure has broken.

What the evidence rating means

Strong

The mechanism has peer-reviewed, FX-specific research behind it.

Moderate

The mechanism is sound, but at least one step of it is untested.

Weak

Practitioner literature only — no published research supports the mechanism.

It rates the mechanism — whether there is published research explaining why the market should behave this way. It does not rate profit. Strong does not mean the trade will work. None of these have been run on our own account, and no page here shows a backtest figure.

What the level means

Beginner

One instrument, one timeframe, every rule visible on the chart.

Intermediate

Several conditions have to line up, and execution starts to matter.

Professional

Needs an outside data feed, a basket, real order flow, or an unusual tolerance for lumpy losses.

The level describes what it takes to run the strategy, not how well it works. Several Beginner pages are better evidenced than several Professional ones — a basket carry trade is Professional because it needs eight currencies and a swap table, not because it is cleverer than buying a pullback.

Trading carries risk and most retail accounts lose money. Nothing in this library is financial advice or a recommendation to trade. The charts are illustrations of the rules on constructed candles — they are not records of trades and not backtests.
